| 04-12-07 | WNTDTYR at Styxfest |
| The Styxfest staff is delighted to announce that the Styx tribute band What Not To Do To Your Roboto will be performing at Styxfest! You've probably seen this band's remake of the Kilroy Was Here movie on YouTube, but did you know that they did a tribute to the new Shaw-Blades album that Tommy himself says he loves? You can check out WNTDTYR at their MySpace page and their website. | |
| 03-23-07 | Ticket Info |
|
We know that when tickets for the Casino Rama shows went onsale, a
lot of the "good" (e.g., first few rows) seats were either gone or
snapped up in a matter of seconds, and many people have been left
without decent tickets or without tickets at all. We have some great information about the venue from someone who's attended Styx shows there in 2003, 2004, and 2006 - the upshoot is, she says that where you're sitting really doesn't matter! She says that they do make you sit in your seat until the lights go down (although occasionally they will let people up to the stage sooner). But because this is a casino, she says that almost the entire audience stays seated for the whole show. There are two "boxes" in front of the stage, with about an 8-foot gap between them. These two boxes are painted or taped out on the floor. They're about 10 feet deep, and they pretty much cover the entire front of the stage (with the exception of where the gap is). In our informant's experience, those of us diehards have all headed to the boxes, while everyone else stays in their seats. Seat location didn't matter; they let anyone who wants to be in the boxes stand in the boxes, no matter where their ticketed seating was. That's the good news! So, don't despair if your tickets aren't in the first few rows. From what we understand, you'll be able to get up to the stage, and standing won't be a problem (as it often is in casinos). (Thank you to LisaB for her description of the venue!) | |

| 09-19-06 | Styxfest Explanation |
| Questions came up before the last Styxfest about what all a ‘fest entails, and how it differs from a casual fan gathering at a restaurant. We want to answer those questions in advance this time. Styxfest is much more than a pre-show hang-out, where all someone needs to do is call a restaurant and warn them that a group will be coming at a certain time. Styxfest is an actual convention, much like those held for Sci-Fi, comics and TV shows. What you’re getting by registering and paying in advance for Styxfest is a package deal with events going on throughout each day for attendees. The costs of putting on an event of this type are similar to those incurred by a wedding. We have to pay for catering (REQUIRED for ballroom use), and for renting the ballroom, A/V equipment, tables and chairs, and much more. We also have to cover the costs of the laminated passes, goodie bags, and t-shirts for each person, as well as the printing costs for the yearbook/program and the awards. These are the expenses that are covered by the registration fees. We can't divulge any details about the what’s going to be happening at Styxfest yet, but as soon as things are set, they'll be posted on Styxfest.com. We can promise you a good time with your fellow Styx fanatics, and an AWESOME auction, bigger and better than the one in 2004. Last time Jeanne donated some amazing things without any advance notice at all. This time, she's got nine months to gather, and she's already started, so we can't wait to see what she has for us. So…you might want to start saving your pennies. We’d hate to have Styx fans knocking over liquor stores to buy sweaty stage clothes! ;-) |
